There’s no break.
You may already wonder how long you can keep this up.
You became a therapist because you want to help people, but the …
Pandemic
Reckoning of hundreds of years of racism and white supremacy
Alarming erosion of individual AND women’s rights
Rampant gun violence
Bitter political divisiveness
Rapid planetary changes like global warming
… can make it feel more impossible lately.
If you don’t pay attention to the warning signs, you’ll be heading toward burn out.
Some of the warning signs are:
Feeling like you don’t have your own resources that keep you going.
Feeling like all you’re doing is spitting on a dumpster fire.
Feeling like you have to pretend that we live in a functional world that supports mental health when the core of our capitalistic system is built for discontent, sickness, addiction, and disease.
It’s time to love being a therapist again.
Find support in a small, welcoming group of therapists.
Feel seen and heard.
Run your business and your practice in ways that nurture you first.
Get help with your most difficult cases — especially the ones that make you feel the most de-skilled and ineffective.
“Maureen and I have known each other for 18 years. We have been in multiple consultation groups together emphasizing trauma treatment. She has a calming energy, a warm spirit, is generous with her time, her knowledge, and resources.
Those who have the opportunity to work with Maureen in any capacity are fortunate indeed.”
