You are standing at a gate.

It may be a loss that's brought you to the gate or the end of something that you counted on or a sudden change that you thought you wanted or a deep-down feeling that something needs to shift. 

You know that you must pass through this gate.

The very thought of doing this can be overwhelming.

Your first impulse may be to run in the opposite direction.

You can feel totally lost, as the comfy space of what you've known fades away and what's ahead scares the sh*t out of you.

Standing at the gate can also bring up old wounds. These can be things that you already dealt with or things that you haven't had the opportunity to look at yet.

This exact spot is what I call a Gate Passage. 

Gate Passage is a time of transition. 

They clear away what you no longer need along your journey, while making room for what's next.

Some Gate Passages are easy. Others feel like your world is turned upside down and nothing makes sense anymore.

You're not alone.

Each soul on the planet has many Gates to pass through. Some are universal (think puberty). Some are uniquely your own.  

You've done hard things before.

You like to (mostly) handle this stuff on your own.

You're sensitive -- whether you're a Highly Sensitive Person, empathic, introvert or all three. You enjoy your own company and lots of downtime. You don't do small talk or malls.

I'm Maureen. In nearly 20 years as a psychotherapist, I've helped hundreds of people through their Gate Passages. Many of them had no idea what to do and how to do it. Many of them had crappy traumatic things happen to them as kids that were coming back up in the here and now. Many weren't sure if they'd be able to get through it.

They did get through it.

As they did, they went from overwhelmed and lost to capable and grounded. 

I've had many of my own Gate Passages. One of them was a crippling disability that ended my journalism career. This passage cleared away my home, my partner, my possessions, and my ability to care of myself. As I passed through it, I had many days in dark despair. Eventually I began to see a tiny pinhole of light ahead of me, and I followed it as it got bigger through the gate.  Click here to see more about my training and what brought me here.

These are some of things I've had the honor of helping people with:
